BOFI Racing 6 Puck Clutch Kit for Mazda MX-5 NA NB 1.8
One of the most frequent questions we get asked about our BOFI Orange Clutch is can I drift it? While it’s certainly possible to clutch kick and get the back end out, the organic face means it isn’t suitable for hardcore drifters. Our solution to this is our very own BOFI Racing 6 puck clutch. This kit features the same pressure plate, meaning only marginally heavier than OEM, but does away with the dual friction disc in favour of a heavy-duty, 6 puck ceramic disc. This means the clutch maintains the feel of a Stage 2 pressure plate but has the holding power of a 6 puck stage 4. While the engagement is aggressive, it doesn’t wear your leg out and is significantly more daily drivable than standard stage 4 alternatives.
How have we achieved this? We went to one of the best Clutch manufacturers in the UK, who build custom clutches for any and all applications in house, they offer a variety of materials from the innovative dual friction material design to heavy-duty, aggressive 6 puck clutches. The custom modified pressure plate features an altered fulcrum point to give you more mechanical advantage, as well as the slotted design, providing 8% more torque holding without any increased pedal feel.
Bedding in Procedure
Ensure that your flywheel is freshly skimmed if re-using, preferably use a new flywheel. For best results give the car 2-300 miles of town driving before taking to a dyno or applying full load. This clutch may slip if it has not been bedded in properly when running close to the torque limit.
