Fuel System Builder for Mazda MX-5 NA NB

Configure your perfect fuel system with your complete fuel system builder.

Fuel Pump

The Walbro 255 is our go-to fuel pump for when the stock pump just isn’t cutting it. This will be enough for spicy naturally aspirated builds and medium boost turbo builds, anything up to 250hp. Anything over 250hp, especially if approaching the 300s, a 340lph to recommend, both AEM and Deatschwerks make excellent options.

To get the most out of any upgraded fuel pump, an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator is highly recommended.

Fuel Strainer

This is the only fuel stainer we’ve managed to find that uses the correct 45 degree pick up angle that is needed in the Mazda MX-5 Fuel tank. Most aftermarket pumps come with a flat pick up filter that ends up lifting the lowest point the pump can suck from, making the last bit of fuel unreachable.

Fuel Lines

Gates high-quality rubber fuel hose is manufactured with low-permeation technology offering inclusive fuel compatibility. Overtime E10 fuel can cause degradation of the OEM rubber fuel lines in the early Mazda MX-5 models such as NA and NB1 89-00.

Gates Barricade can be used to replace your old cracking fuel lines. Resistant to all modern fuels, including petrol containing ethanol up to 15% (E15) as well as E85.

Sold as 2 meters, enough to replace all fuel lines on 1989 – 2000 MX-5s.

2001 upwards cars with returnless fuel systems came with upgraded fuel lines which can withstand modern E10 fuel.

Fuel Filters

Replace your aged fuel filter in your Mazda MX-5 NA with this aftermarket fuel filter. Often missed during service intervals, the fuel filter should be changed ever 30,000. If you haven’t replaced the fuel filter on your MX-5 yourself, we recommend you do it as a matter of course.

Fuel Rails

One of the limiting factors of tuning engines is ensuring that each cylinder is receiving the same amount of fuel and air as the next, with an AFR gauge only providing an average of all 4, in the case of the MX-5, it’s fairly common for the 4th cylinder to run leaner than the others, meaning we must compensate with more overall fuel, lowering how much power we can make.

Fuel Pressure Regulators

The installation of performance fuel injectors or a high-flow fuel pump requires the use of an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator to allow pressure adjustments while maintaining a stable base pressure and to adjust that base pressure. They can also be used to maximise a standard fuel system’s ability to cope with minor power modifications.

Fuel Sensors

Flex-fuel sensors allow you to measure the percentage of ethanol in fuel going into the fuel rail. These sensors also have the advantage of being able to measure fuel temperature.

Fuel Pressure Gauges

When attached to a fuel pressure regulator, a fuel pressure gauge allows you to set and monitor the base pressure of the pressure regulator.

Fuel Injectors

When you’re forcing more air into the engine of your MX-5, you need to deliver more fuel along with it to make a bigger bang. We offer a range of injector sizes and specs depending on what type of thing you’re planning on doing with your car.

For a spicy naturally aspirated build, we’d recommend 380cc injectors. This is a hefty amount above the standard size and is ideal for builds aiming for 170hp and below.

For anything supercharged or low-high boost turbos, 640cc is our perfect sweet spot. We have our own Bosch EV14 set which we have used on everything from stock ECU 1.6’s to 300hp mega builds with great results. Flow force offer a kit with the same CC but using flow matched injectors.

For anything above 320hp, we’ve found 960cc injectors to be needed. And if you’re shooting for the moon, we’re able to offer a proper motorsport designed injector in the form of the ID1050s.
