Reduce the restriction in your exhaust system with our range of MX-5 decat pipes, otherwise known as test pipes or straight pipes. Designed to be installed in place of your catalytic converter, they are compatible with both standard and aftermarket exhaust systems, and provide a bang-for-your-buck performance upgrade.
Catalytic converters (particularly older designs) can restrict exhaust flow significantly, handicapping your engine’s peak power output. By eliminating this restriction, exhaust gases can escape the engine more efficiently — and that means more go! A decat pipe will make an even bigger difference on turbo or supercharged MX-5s.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I legally install a decat pipe on my road car?
In the UK, decat pipes are not considered road legal if your car originally came fitted with a catalytic converter — and it’s unlikely to pass an MOT with a decat pipe fitted. As such, our MX-5 decat pipes are only suitable for track use. If you’d like a road legal upgrade, take a look at one of our sports cats.
What types of decat pipes are available for my MX-5?
We offer four different types of MX-5 decat pipe at BOFI Racing: standard straight pipes, silenced decats, fake cats and sports cats. Silenced decats contain a small silencer, allowing you to enjoy the performance benefit of a decat without the louder exhaust sound.
Fake cats give your exhaust system a stock, low-key look (but offer the same performance benefit as a regular decat), while sports cats are more free-flowing replacements for the original catalytic converter.
How much louder will my MX-5 be with a decat pipe?
This depends on the exhaust system you have fitted and whether your car is turbocharged or not; naturally aspirated cars can become significantly louder with a decat pipe fitted, though turbo cars aren’t quite as loud and raspy. This is because the turbo itself quietens the exhaust a little. Having said that, you will notice an increase in volume regardless.
