Introducing the ePAD electromagnetic brake pad assist system
Utilising the power of electromagnetism, we have developed a patent-pending system that provides a racing edge with the factory brake system. Designed as a simple retrofit solution, it has proven to increase braking power by up to 24%. Our special backing material consists of an iron alloy embedded with electromagnetic coils, allowing the pads to exert either a clamping or repulsion force depending on the pedal position.
Current is increased across the ePAD’s electromagnetic coils as the pedal is depressed. A potentiometer can be wired into the circuit that adjusts the clamping force relative to pedal pressure, adjusting the amount of braking assist available. With a dial on the dash, this can be adjusted on the fly according to driving conditions, replacing traditional brake bias valve systems.
When the pedal no longer sees any pressure, the polarity of the electromagnets is reversed. The backing plates are subject to a repulsion force that forces the pads apart, reducing frictional drag between the pad and the disc. Fuel economy is increased by 12%, whilst top speeds up to 3% faster have been measured in our controlled testing.
A further benefit of reduced friction is a dramatic reduction in heat, meaning harder braking is possible stop after stop. With less heat being absorbed by the disc and the caliper, brake fluid lasts longer and most pad materials stay within their ideal operating temperatures for longer. As a result, the entire braking system is subjected to less degradation, increasing the service life of the pads and discs up to 31%.
The installation of the ePAD system is simple, with a retrofit pad that connects to a supplied loom which takes its signal from the brake pedal switch. A dedicated feed with a separate relay and remote fuse box from the battery provides the voltage required to operate the electromagnetic pads. Installation is fully reversible with no drilling required, for a stealthy install that provides unparalleled performance.
Production kits are expected to be released around mid-July.
