The Racetech Oil Temperature Sensor is essential for keeping an eye on oil temperatures on track. Engine oil becomes thinner as temperatures increase. When it becomes too hot, the oil beings to degrade. At these temperatures, the additives in the oil break down, reducing the oil’s ability to coat the bearing surfaces. This breakdown hinders also the oil’s ability to flow, reducing its ability to lubricate the engine, which can cause lasting damage.
By fitting a temperature sensor, you will be able to monitor the state of the engine and prevent excess wear. We’ve seen temperatures in excess of 130°C on track. Using an appropriate oil and fitting an oil cooler can help protect your engine.
We have published the resistance so that when using the sensor with an aftermarket ECU such as a Motorsport Electronics ME221 or Megasquirt MS3, you can get accurate readings of your oil’s temperature.
